Learn Tamil Alphabet – Uyir Mei Ezhuthukkal
Teach kids all Tamil letters with colorful illustrations and sounds
If Uyir Ezhuthukkal (vowels) are the life of Tamil, then Mei Ezhuthukkal (consonants) are its body—strong, steady, and full of potential. On their own, Mei Ezhuthukkal stand as silent bodies waiting for life. But when they meet Uyir Ezhuthukkal, magic happens! The body gets life, and together, they form Uyir-Mei Ezhuthukkal, the letters that bring Tamil words to life.
An example of a Uyir-Mei Ezhuthu is "க", formed by combining the Mei letter "க்" (body) with the Uyir letter "அ" (life). With 12 Uyir Ezhuthukkal and 18 Mei Ezhuthukkal, this powerful pairing creates a total of 216 Uyir-Mei Ezhuthukkal. These terms carry deep meaning too—"Uyir" means "life" or "soul," and "Mei" means "body," reflecting the perfect balance of life and structure in Tamil.
