Thambi teaches how to say I, you, he, and she in Tamil for easy conversations
When we speak, we often use words like I, you, he, or she — these are called pronouns. They help us talk about people or things without repeating names again and again.
In Tamil, they change based on many details — like who is speaking, how many, boy or girl, human or non-human, and even whether the person is near or far.
To make this easier to learn, we’ve created a few simple icons you’ll notice in the corner of each illustration below. Just a quick glance at them will help you remember the pronoun’s category — whether it’s singular or plural, male or female, near or far, human or non-human. These little cues make it easy to cross-check and understand Tamil pronouns quickly!
Now, let’s hear it from Thambi himself! 🧒
Through the following illustrations, Thambi will show us how he calls everyone — and we’ll learn together how to use Tamil pronouns correctly in each situation.
I - Thambi wants to say, "I am studying!" What is the special Tamil word Thambi uses to refer to himself, and how can you say "I" when you talk about yourself?
நான் படிக்கிறேன்.
HE (far) - See the boy far away over there? If we want to say, "He is standing there," what is the Tamil word we use to talk about that specific boy?
அவன் அங்கே நிற்கிறான்.
HE (near) - Look, the boy is standing right here next to us! If we want to say, "He is standing here," what is the special Tamil word for 'He' when the person is very close?
